AG Writers Guidelines

Who We Are: Afrikan Goddess is the premier online publication for African women both at home and abroad. Our primary goal is to bring the amazing achievements of African women into the limelight, and to uplift the positive cultural image of our heritage.

What AG is Looking for: AG is seeking writers who love what they do, whose writing carries a significant message to African women and portrays the African woman in an uplifting light. Most of all, we are seeking writers who share our vision and goals. We welcome writers interested in writing articles on a monthly basis between 500 and 1000 words on the following topics:

  • Inspirational/Health (Mind/Body/Soul): This column combines health-related articles with inspirational pieces for the mind and soul. Articles must seek to inspire and encourage women to live their best lives, and to thrive to be the women God intended them to be. Inspirational articles can be individual lessons learned, or articles that seek to inspire women to achieve and attain what many deem impossible. We also welcome individual health tips that are tried and true. A medical remedy that worked for you will not necessarily be considered medical advice and can be shared as a non-professional piece.
  • Love/Relationships: We offer writers discretion on the topic of love and relationships, with one exception: it must be tailored toward general concepts of African relationships. There are lots of publications that exist to address relationships by westernized standards. AG seeks to address relationship issues that are realistically faced by African women.
  • Career and Money: Writers have discretion on articles submitted with financial and business/career related content. Topics must be approved by the editor.
  • Other general op-eds and blogs: This is the column where writers have the most liberty to be creative and to explore any topic of their choosing. Articles and features will be assigned to columns based on the message of the content.

Submission Guidelines

At Afrikan Goddess, professionalism and quality are important qualities we pride ourselves in. As such, we only accept articles with high quality content. While Afrikan Goddess reserves the right to edit the content of articles submitted, we advise that articles be of the highest standards.

Please note that while we endeavor to respond to all submissions promptly, it may not always be possible to do so depending on the volume of articles we receive. You will be notified promptly, via the email address used to submit the work, if we do decide to feature your article.

Please allow up to two (2) weeks for the review of your submission. Check the appropriate check box of the topic your article falls under to better expedite the review process. Also include a brief bio you wish to be attached to your article so we can give you full credit for the article.

Note that while the general writing guideline indicates that articles must be between 500 and 1000 words, poetry, recipes and other quick tips may be shorter.

*Please be advised that while we do appreciate your contribution and willingness to be a part of AG, it is possible that an article you submit will not be featured, if the article does not meet our standards. If you wish to re-submit an article, please feel free to do so after you have made all the necessary edits.
