| SAM RUBY MADE MY DAY! By: N. Amma Twum-Baah (August 11, 2009)
When I set off to work this morning, very little did I know that I would meet a woman (and man) whose singing voice would see me through my already giddy day. Already in high spirits from recent positive developments in my life, I gladly grabbed a copy of the Express Newspaper and went straight to the entertainment section after browsing through all the news I had already heard on the morning news. My attention was grabbed by a feature article “So Snappy Together.” Upon further reading, I noticed I was reading about one of my Ghanaian sisters. I was floored and I was curious. I wanted to know more. As soon as I got to work, I booted my PC, googled the sensational singing duo and navigated to their MySpace page where I have remained even as I write this short piece. Sam is a white man from Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Ruby is an African woman from Ghana, West Africa. She moved with her family to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of 3, which would explain her sultry country flair. With songs like “Heaven’s My Home,” a song on "The Secret Life of Bees" soundtrack, “Can’t Stop Loving You,” and “Ain’t Love Something,” the album is a well-balanced collection of love ballads and emotionally good feel music.
I am stuck on the song “The Here and the Now,” which I understand didn’t make the cut for the final album and I wanna know why? Nevertheless, it promises to be a great day. After work I am going in search of the album! Read the AP Article on Sam and Ruby |
